Would that you and I 

      were not as fate decreed 

just two lost souls

 life left to wander 

all these many years 

without the joys of

 our fingers intwined 

our lips shared

 as one

 in liquid blends 

of taste, and touch

 and whispered words 

bringing heartfelt thoughts 

with nothing -between- 

us both but

patterned cloth 

and pockets of air.

 

Would that

we had known

 each others selves 

as well as we

 have memorized

 the lines of 

our faces 

as true as we know

 the maps of our flesh.

 
You the girl next door 

and me the guy who

you played house with

 our first and only 

true love, 

instead of those

 paths of pain

 on which we 

have both embarked 

over the years 

even without regrets.

Would that you

 could hold me

 curled in your fingers 

and squeeze me 

like a handshake

 between closest friends

 familiar and warm,

as you watched 

the flames of passion

 blazing brightly 

under the lids of my 

half-closed eyes, 

as you felt the stirring 

of the flesh 

that hardens

 during one of

 love's most 

tender of moments.

 

Would that I could 

wet your lips 

in stereo places

 and make your breath 

catch like the

 gasp of a newborn 

as it realizes life

 with all it's potential 

smiling as you cry out 

with joy at 

our joint discovery 

It's thoughts like these 

that keep the embers

 glowing in the 

caverns of my heart 

and it's knowing 

that we could together

 share a match 

that makes the spark

 to feed the flames

 and quench the cold

 that grips our lifes 

without what would 

what could have been 

if we had not 

as fate decreed 

been two lost souls 

apart.....

for far too long.
