Starting at a young age, playing classical piano, I thought after college this would be easier and that I could make it in this industry. I started up a band and played every week at gigs, and I found myself going nowhere.
Everyone in the band soon started families and lost the drive to continue. I moved on to a big city with more opportunities. I landed a gig after a year part-time playing for the lunch crowd at the House of Blues, still creating my own original music and sending it to every record company that I could think of. When I finally received a response, it was never good. Still determined, I started up several bands and started managing them while still looking for my break and working part-time.
I finally, while working, met a man whom had several hits and heard me playing and asked me my story. He gave my group a chance to be heard. At this time he managed me and gave me some good advice. He said he had seen thousands of musicians and gave them a chance, but could never be heard. "In this business, it's about who you know, and not how good you are," he said.
Through his kindness, I was able to get a production deal, but I played for other artists and produced music for them, for 4 years, before I landed my deal. My group never had the determination. After playing night after night and bringing that energy to every show it was hard, but that is what your fans want to see. I started developing serious artists. I did everything from making their tracks, helping with stage presences, and negotiating their record deal. I continued to play for others while collecting and making contacts along the way.
After a while I was able to take some time to produce tracks and sale them to record companies. I just wanted to give a good musician a chance to be heard, like someone gave me. I have been doing this for over 20 years now. I have helped a countless number of people make it in the music industry and I hope to help many more.
