I get a burst of applause

as I take a short *pause

to swallow a shot of bourbon

in front of a crowd sympathetic

to my anesthetic I’m certain

as I play one more of far too many gigs

in small towns that are barely urban,

smoking endless cigs

and trying to make it big

which leaves my body

and soul both hurting.

Chorus-

I long for that rush

and that crush of a crowd,

in some concert venues

that’ll do us up proud,

waving cells phones for encores

and screaming out loud,

till we leave them all sated

and totally wowed!

But what I’ve got is a

cheap motel waiting for me

and a long string of gigs

that I’m sure will not be…..

Our ticket to claim

just a piece of that fame

that’s elusive as hell

far too few know our name.

so I long for that rush

So it’s back to my microphone

scented with booze,

trying to make the world happy

by singing the blues,

in a race to be stars

which so many bands lose,

and if you think it’s all glory

come stand in my shoes ….

as I spend one more night…ight

trying to woo all of you……
