Revelations.

The dark angel came in the shadows of night

Eclipsing my dreams with her cries,

Her wings beating cold breezes over my sheets

With a fiery blaze in her eyes

quite wise to my long life of lies.

She swept my soul upward, a dark, shriveled mass

As my flesh fought against ever letting it pass,

But quickly beneath her broad wings it was clasped

I was sure life was over at last.

Then into the vast void of time we both flew,

To the future that waited for me, what was due

My soul wailed with dread, at its tragic review

Exposed long before my own past was yet through.

Chorus-

A wizened old man sitting lonely and sad,

In a hovel that matched no home I’d ever had

Abandoned by all those who once claimed to know me

Just a shell of myself in the vision below me

Like a long vanquished Trump lost in his solitude,

His riches all gone, anguish painting his moods,

With a handful of pills and the dregs of some coffee

Quite determined to let their oblivion stop me.

Then she transported me back through days I had lived,

And allowed me to see what she couldn't forgive

so many good folks in my climb to success,

Left trampled and broke, many chose early death.

What goes around comes around it was easy to see

That the suffering they bore ended up back with me,

But when she showed me what I would face eternally

The horrors that waited urged my trapped soul to flee.

A dark mourning crawled through the fingers of light,

Then it crept through my blinds as I woke up in fright,

To find a ebony feather lying next to my head,

Warning me to find pathways to goodness instead……
