That little boy 
in me 
leaps freely 
like the flight
of the wildest tumbleweed 
back through my memories

Giggling with glee 
as I climb back down
my family tree 
to a place I’ve 
always longed to be
playing with her 
in the meadows 
of Maybeland
where no one 
ever grows old……


Where the sun is 
always ten years warm..
Sharing twenty toes 
all splayed in
Spring’s fresh puddles 
we can wade in…
over steaming 
concrete plains
sailing paper boats…
in the gutter’s moats
that reflect the distant 
clouds that float
in the mirrors of fallen rain….
of fallen rain….


Holding hands 
as we both dash across 
cornflower blue 
forget-me-nots
chasing all our 
grown up doldrums 
into long forsaken 
afterthoughts
as our childhood 
we reclaim

Sharing endless 
hours of nothing 
else to do but just have fun 
laughing at our 
silly times renewed
in our long lost 
youthful rendevous 
lost within her eyes 
so baby blue
knowing now 
my love for her was true
she was my chosen one

With breathless fear 
and sweet elation
I kiss her on 
her dainty cheek
then run away 
before her blush 
breaks full
back through the 
years that oh, 
so cruelly pull
me back to where 
she isn’t mine
now lost to me 
for all of time…..
for all of time.

Till that little boy 
in me
