De Ja Blues.

Verse 1

Perhaps I'm still there,
somewhere back in my past 
underneath a straw hat,
chewing long stalks of grass 
near a monkey-ball tree. 
in that place where I sat.


Chorus-.

In that sizzling hot Summer 
only nine but I'd trade
for grown up escapades,
all the yawns of my childood
watching my morning fade 
longing for a grape Kool-Aid 
in the chill of the shade. 


Verse 2-

Maybe wishes I'd made 
then to be an adult 
had at long 
last come true
when my world
was a freshly
baked cookie 
quickly nibbled during 
my childhood blues.

Chorus-

Has it only been seconds, 
since I voiced my desire
to let childhood expire 
setting innocence free 
blowing wish balls of fluff 
from four dandelions skyward.

Deja blues not yet truth
as I squandered my youth
with tommorrows dreams 
bright in my eyes, 
in my rush to be grown
I wish then I had known
that my youth was 
the ultimate prize.



Verse-3

Did surreal wizardry 
simply sweep me from then
through a time warp 
to where I am now,
a kid trapped in 
a middle aged body,
with one chance to 
get back there somehow.

Chorus-

Perhaps all of these 
years that I carry, 
are only an eye blink away 
from that old backyard tree 
where I lounged lazily
studying sun-dappled weaves 
'neath that straw hat on me.

In a pie scented breeze 
that still calls me to be 
in Mom's kitchen where she
baked her best recipe
peach pie sliced lovingly...
filling taste buds with glee. 

Verse 4-

But Mom's been gone a while 
as a whimsical smile 
comes to sadly erase
any dreams of return
from this growing old place, 
on my much wiser face
as I rise with a groan,
on my creaky old bones
understanding that I'll never 
go way back when
cause I'm too old to play
make believing again.

I wanted to go back, 
but you can't go back
because it's gone, 
time rearranges
an old familiar 
face or place changes
and moves on....
it moves on....

Deja blues haunt my soul
as the years take their toll,
from my weary heart I realize 
in my rush to be grown
