I get a lot of questions regarding things like " Why am i not signed? ", " How do I get signed? ", and my favorite " Will you sign me? ". First off let me say no I won't, but here is why. For EVERYONE who doesn't know what being signed truely means, All IT IS A BANK LOAN!!! A label signs you for X amount of dollars and every cent of that money,for one YOU HAVE TO PAY BACK, and secondly is for yourALBUM!! So how it works is like this, they give you an account with a company credit card. You use this to pay for EVERYTHING! Studio Time, Production, Mixing, Features from other artist, Transportation ( Flying 1st class Cost a lot ), Hotel rooms, Video Shoots, Videographers, they charge you for everything they possibly can, down to the damn toilet paper you use, they just call it Amenities. Now that the album is done lets say they signed you for 2 million dollars. Your album has to gross more money then what you spent or you will be in debt to the label. Keep in mind 9 times out of 10 you end up going over your spending limit anyways because they dont tell you to stop spending. So lets say best case scenario you make back with your album what they put in, which is 2 million dollars ( SEEMS GREAT RIGHT?? ) Sorry but that goes straight to the label to pay back what they loaned to you SO YOU MAKE NOTHING!!! Thats why I highly suggest the Independent route because being signed does mean an easier ride to " Stardom " but you make a lot more money at the end of the day from being independent.
