Robert Caruso started in Italy in his early teens as Rob Leer (& The Electric Kids) with Robert as singer, guitarist and also on piano, organ and harmonica. From the beginning he performed original material, rooted in the Blues, '50s Rock'n'Roll (Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, etc..), '60s classics like The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Doors and Jimi Hendrix, and Punk Rock acts like Johnny Thunders, Ramones and Sex Pistols. Starting from his hometown of Cosenza in South Italy, he moved first to Rome and then to London aged 19. He toured all over Italy and his 1980s material is now collected on the album Rob Leer & The Electric Kids (1989), while Waiting For The Light (1983) contains lo-fi demos for an album-concept recounting a doomed teenage love story, in which his Rock'n'Roll met the Techno Pop sound of the early 1980s. He appeared on numerous TV and radio programs, and in the film 'Primi Amori' by Mimmo Rafele (RAI, Italy, 1984). 3 documentaries about him were broadcast on Italian TV in the 1980s, while Robert was still a teenager.

In 1985 Robert moved to London for good, befriending ex-Velvet Underground Nico and Johnny Thunders. After The Electric Kids split up in 1988, he started performing under his real name, mostly solo and acoustic, playing Dobro slide guitar and rack-harmonica. He recorded self-produced albums sold as cassettes in 1993/94. In 1995 he signed with Acetone Records and recorded the acoustic album When My Train Comes in which his previous Rock style met the Mississippi Delta Blues tradition. During 1992-1997 Robert toured constantly all over Britain and in France, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, Italy and the US. He received rave reviews in the music press for his live performances and for creating a most original body of work in contemporary Blues. He often played as opening act for Rock acts like Johnny Thunders and Alan Vega, and many legendary American bluesmen such as Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, John Hammond, Honeyboy Edwards, Lousiana Red and many others in London's clubs and Blues Festivals throughout the UK and abroad. Robert obtained BA and MA in Philosophy and English literary studies in 2005 at University College London and wrote two poetry collections: 'Transcendence' (2003) and 'Sublimations' (2005) plus translations of 19th century Italian Romantic literature into English and viceversa.

He then started performing live again with a band. His tours of Italy in 2008-2013 won critical acclaim, with some of the press hailing him as 'The King Of Rock&Roll'. In 2009-2014 he performed live in London regularly, playing also the now 'de rigueur' Christmas concerts in Italy. Robert sang with The Yardbirds who considered him as a possible front-man, and also with Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana from Elvis Presley's original band.
In late 2012 his best, most recent recordings came out on the album The Best-kept Secret In Rock'n'Roll, an epithet given by journalists. His "records" are released as a digital downloads on iTunes and all other major digital music distributors, and as a physical CDs on Amazon.com. His recordings and live repertoire contain much variety. In particular You're Doing Nothing Now, Indian Summer, Days Of Wine And Roses, Lisa, I Can Give You Nothing But Love, Rebel and Interference proved to be popular with digital radio listeners on the Internet worldwide. Robert kept performing live in London, often solo, and abroad with his 3-piece Italian backing band The Shades. His single Red Pills was released in 03/2013, followed by singles Sugar Baby Doll (08/2013) When I Drink My Pint (12/2013) Get Crazy (02/2014) I Don't Want To Fall In Love With You (06/2014) Nobody's Girl (09/2014) You're Driving Me Insane (02/2015) and Sooner Or Later (05/2015).
His album The Best-kept Secret In Rock'n'Roll "digitally remastered" has been re-released (11/2013) and his second album Love And Death (11/2014) which includes 5 of his singles plus 7 other songs (among them Boulevard Of Broken Dreams originally written for Nico who passed away before she could record it) are all available on iTunes and as physical CDs on amazon.com. Both albums, complete in "video format" and with other videos, are on the Robert Caruso (Official) channel on YouTube. On his albums mostly Robert plays all instruments and produces them single-handed.

Robert's following is always growing, with the recognition as a compelling and charismatic live performer and his originality as songwriter and guitarist with an extensive and varied repertoire which combine supersonic Rock&Roll with lyrics about a desire for transcendence through love, drugs and spirituality. For some Robert Caruso is the ultimate Rock'n'Roll performer for the 21th century: a streetwise, cool attitude that goes back to '50s Rockers and Punk Rock, using '60s iconic instruments like his Vox Teardrop guitar and Vox Jaguar organ, combining his 'buzzsaw' guitar and Vox organ with influences from the Blues, Psychedelia, Funk, Post Punk and often lyrics with Gothic imagery. Likewise his picturesque look of black leather, shades and cowboy shirts has its roots in the best Rock'n'Roll tradition.
Many writers described him as a bona-fide visionary artist. Once his on-going problems with having both a steady band to perform live regularly and professional management are solved, his chances to obtain mainstream success shall be assured.
