Yesterday we talked about God’s Covering so we felt it would be fitting to talk about being Open (uncovered) vs. being Covered.  Please enjoy this read.

OPEN vs. COVERED

We cannot allow ourselves to be open unto the sinful side of life. 

Instead, we must recognize that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all iniquity and transgression. 

We must accept the covering of Jesus Christ.

Consider this story

Mike attends Briar Park High School.  He’s a freshman at the school.  He recently joined the basketball program at his local church.  Every morning at school he brags to the other boys how he’s the star player at his church.  The guys at his school would always invite Mike to be on their team during gym period.  Mike would always turn the boys down after explaining he’s not allowed to play or practice out side of his church team.  A few of the boys got together and decided to go check out Mike’s skills on the court.    When they arrived at the church gym they ask the coach if Mike was there.  The coach informed the group that Mike went to get some water.  The guys figured they would wait for Mike to return.  When Mike returned, they discovered Mike was not who he claimed to be.  Not only did he have water for his teammates, but also on his shirt it read in bold letters WATER-BOY.  One of the boys called out his name.  Mike looked up and ran out of the gym from embarrassment.  He was very wrath from the incident.   Mike decided he wasn’t going to associate with the boys anymore

Mike’s lies opened him up to the spirit of oppression and pain, which inflicted evil.  The spirit of evil caused him to neglect those around him.  What Mike failed to realize is although he was just a water-boy he played a very important role in the safety of the team. 

Ask yourself, “Am I appreciative of where God has me and what he has done for us?” 

Mike jeopardized his covering for self-gratification.  Once Mike realized he had forsaken his obedience by lying, he repented, confessed his lies and asked the fellows to forgive him.  The guys respected him and accepted his apology.  Mike escaped the spirit of damnation by humbling himself.

Now the fellows want Mike on their team as the towel/water boy and over time maybe even becoming a player on the team.

Cor 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

OPEN = Oppression – Pain – Evil – Neglect –

Vs.

COVERED = Covenant – Obedience – Validates - Equality and

Restoration, - Escaping – Damnation
