How long can one hold onto a dream, 
starved by useless plans 
clutched tight in the cusp 
of thier weary hands. 

Cradled for so long in 
in the restless heart of some 
whose souls lies sleepless 
by the realizations 
of all that is left undone, 
while their dreams become...... 

Dust motes that 
float chaotically, 
in the next days sunbeams 
never shining as bright, 
as that gleam in their eyes 
back in the summers of thier youth 
when they still had some fight. 

Life becomes an escalator 
running backwards, 
no matter how fast 
they scramble towards, 
what they expected 
left at the bottom 
rejected....... 

Unable to find 
what's waiting above, 
tragically being 
drawn in the opposite direction, 
back to where it all began..... 
below those fading hopes 
they're dreaming of 


Love and fame 
are prized tickets, 
not handed to us 
but grasped at desperately 
on the stages we alone 
choose to dance across, 
they can bring warm hugs, 
passion and glory, 
or simply an alley door exit, 
grasping the torn tatters 
of another chance denied. 

Ripped in half and 
no longer worthy, 
of the grand everlasting 
beauty that was 
once promised. 

I am now but a 
stretched tendril, 
of all that I hoped to be, 
pulled by fate's failures 
spanning many years 
into something resembling 
a single guitar string, 
tightly strung out as 
the final flat notes wail, 
echoing all of the sorrows 
of what I was, 
unable to ever 
truly orchestrate. 
what I could have become.
