About Me
Sydney Salmon has been singing and playing reggae music from in the nineteen eighties as a teenager. Born in Kingston Jamaica, Sydney migrated to the United States of America at age 22 where his interest in the musical arts was rekindled and he went on to study voice and guitar at the Queens conservatory of music. Sydney became a member of the Rastafarian 12 Tribes of Israel movement converting to the Orthodox faith, where his song writing skills developed thus taking him to another level of inspirational music.

In September 2000, Sydney released “Shashemane on my mind”, a single that stirred emotions before his first visit to Shashemane Ethiopia. All proceeds from the single went to the Shashemane Development Building Project organized by the Prophet Gad. As a devout Rastafarian, he could no longer deny himself, so in 2001, he took the bold step to leave his comfortable life in New York and repatriated to Ethiopia, Africa.

Since his formal repatriation, Sydney founded the Imperial Majestic Band with some of the core 12 Tribes of Israel band members from Shashamane, and through diligent determination, built up a sizable following in Ethiopia for authentic Reggae music. Having learnt the Amharic language, Sydney’s lyrics weaved its way into the hearts of Reggae loving Ethiopians with his unique brand that incorporates traditional Ethiopian styles and melodies, with a pulsating Jamaican drum and bass.

His mission was to continue the musical works by centralizing the reggae production: band artists and sound systems for the purpose of supporting the Jamaican Rastafarian Development Community (JRDC) Organization in Shashemane, (yet another pioneering development aspiration conceptualized by the Prophet Gad to continue the works towards the fruits of repatriation & integration in Shashemane Ethiopia). Producing hits such as “Ethiopia is Calling- Babylon is falling”, “Selassie Ye nefse wassie‟, the pioneers‟, “Mamaye‟, and “We love Shashemane” on his mementos album "Ethiopia is Calling, Babylon is falling", Sydney continued to promote the works on the ground in Ethiopia through his music. Hence the Imperial Majestic Production & Promotion PLC’s motto:“Africa development through the love of reggae music”.

Sydney and the band have now completed the production of their latest album which features crucial conscious songs such as “Africa Arising”, “Never Colonized”, “Hear Our Voice”, “Warriors of the East” with various other collaborations to be released late 2015. This album definitely shows the vocal and Lyrical versatility of the artist and the Majestic crew. The track “Guardian of Love” features Saba Kashaye of Ethiopia while the track “ Lions in Captivity” features Mathew Tembo from Zambia and “Warriors from the East” features the no 1 reggae band from Tanzania. “Africa Arising” portrays the new image of Africa at its best inspired by the 50’s anniversary African Union motto in 2013. The title track “The Ultimate Challenge” is ingenuously intended to bring crucial Reggae outta Ethiopia to a universal level - inspired by the timeless words of Emperor Haile Selassie the 1st ‘s famous speech at the United Nations back in the 1960’s, this song proves His words still holds a moving and powerful message for dealing with the problems mankind face still in this time!

Enjoy the interesting blend of Sydney Salmon and the Imperial Majestic Band producing a sweet unique style of Roots Reggae Muzik straight from the motherland. For more information, follow Sydney Salmon on facebook or checkout released music clips on youtube.

Valley Of That - "Rains"

I'm 24 year old musician from the DMV. I grew up singing in competitive choirs but switched to rap and pop, I've been writing and singing for 6 years, I'm starting a new project based on indie/folk blended with hip hop called Valley of That. "Rain" is about a girl I broke up with because she was hard to get along with, but I didn't really want to. Valley Of That ·…See More
