Robert Scott Stanton’s musical education began at the early age of 5. He studied in his early years at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and later privately for several years with composer and pianist Julian Maurice White. He later enrolled in Piano Performance and Composition at San Francisco State University with William Corbet Jones and Richard Festinger PhD. In addition he attended Master Classes with Karl Ulrich Schnabel and private lessons with Robert Helps.
Stanton’s performing experience spans 40 years in both Contemporary, pop and Classical music. He has been influenced by such greats as Chopin, Debussy, The Beatles, The Eagles; Jean Luc Ponti and a host of others. Stanton, now a published composer from L.A. to London, has opened for distinguished artists such as Phil Everly (Everly Brothers), Buddy Miles, Mickey Thomas (Jeffeson Starship) and Brian Ferry of Roxie Music, in venues such as the Berkley Community Theater and Oakland Colleseum in the US and Europe.
As a composer, Robert brings many styles of music to the forefront of entertainment industry. While he is clearly successful in venturing outside the box, his particular style of music is new wave/contemporary which includes smooth jazz, romantic music and easy listening.
In February of 2010 Robert Scott Stanton released CD “By the Wing of an Angel” featuring instrumental pieces such as “By the Wing of An Angel” and “Hour of the Pearl”.
“By the Wing of an Angel” is very melodic with a calming flow throughout. While listening to this piece don’t be surprised if you begin to feel your mind venturing out and you find yourself floating above a mountain stream. After all, it feels like it IS by the wing of an angel. You experience it as an angel might. It’s an extraordinary sensation and is very therapeutic in nature. “Hour of the Pearl” has more of an orchestral-pop base to it perfectly suited for film and television.
As are all of Robert Scott Stanton’s compositions, one of many common threads is the melodic structures and the commercial friendly style in which he writes and composes. Beautifully orchestrated and delivered, this CD has caught the attention of not only powers in the entertainment industry but also adoring fans from all over the world.
Robert is now semi-retired and lives in the Sedona area of Northern Arizona. He continues to compose, record, teach music, concert performances and small venue appearances throughout the western United States.
Philosophies and Musings on music and collaborations in music:
As a solo artist music is a conveyance of emotion and a effort to bring people together through the good feelings and emotions that music brings out in people. This makes for a good evening of shared appreciation for music and the good feelings that come out off such connections.
Collaboratively speaking, Robert has worked with many bands over the years and has learned that professional collaboration is in actuality a relationship, much like any other relationship whether it is romantic or otherwise; in that, respect, comraderie, friendship and an understanding that compromise, and personal honesty with regard to expectations of ourselves and others is essential to any harmonious and productive project. Personally, I feel that all members of any project should be respected for their individual effort and the various talents and abilities they bring to the table. The ‘Ego’, in terms of how some often try to control fellow band members and impose their own frustrations on others (for a variety of reasons) is not conducive to a successful band effort. To this end, Robert is always on the lookout for musicians who understand this simple principle in the hopes of finding a lasting and musically enjoyable, and productive musical endeavor.
