The Social Experience......Helping the Unsigned Artist Get Heard!!!
Since the age of 15 I have spent my life learning music, producing music, working for major and Indi record labels, and promoting various night clubs, shows for major artist, and music related events. Over time I have gained a lot of knowledge and perspective. My goal is to rid my beloved music industry of No Talent Hacks. Here are my Top 5 Tips:
#1 More Marketing – More Money!
The better you are at developing your marketing strategy, the more money you will generate from song downloads, merchandise sales, and live performances. Before you compose your music, write a lyric, or name your next project; you will need to know that there is a market for your product. Once you decide on your specific market, design every aspect of your release towards selling the type of product your target market is ready and willing to buy.
#2 They Gotta Get HIGH on your Music Supply…
When developing your products (songs, merchandise, live performance) ask yourself, would my target market be willing to buy this? Many artists make the mistake of feeling that because they created the product, their fans or potential fans will be willing to or SHOULDbe willing to buy the product. Study similar artist, magazines, websites, and social media sites to help you identify popular trends and products designed specifically for your target market.
#3 Is the Price Right?
Price your products for profit, keeping in mind you want to maintain superior quality as well, your price should be comparable to similar products. If most tee shirts cost $10 at live performances for your target market, then make sure you can sell a great tee shirt at your live performances for $10 while making a $3 profit.
#4 Location – Location – Location…
The internet has given you the power to reach people anywhere on the globe. But you must know where your target market is located geographically, how your target market shops, and where your target market prefers to buy your products.
#5 Show Me What Chu Got!
Now that you have your products (Songs, Merchandise, Live Performance), it’s time to promote to your target market; every day. There are numerous ways to promote your products. You must find every way possible whether it’s free or paid promotion. The standard methods are Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. As an A+R Director, I look at your online presentation and how many legitimate fans, followers, and views you are able to get. Focus heavily on your online promotions. Not only will you be able to generate more income for yourself, I will be more willing to convince a major record label to invest in your career.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I could easily write a full novel about music marketing. I would rather you ask me direct questions. Feel free to inbox me your questions and expect an answer within 48 hours.
