The Big E is the largest state fair in New England, to which people from all over the country travel to see. This typically 17 day event has a little bit of something for everyone with hundreds of typical fair fried food and beer stands, vendor booths, games, rides, shows, a circus, and more. Several buildings can be found on the fairgrounds which are home to many booths featuring gifts, collectibles, keepsakes, made for t.v. items, and many other merchandise items. Multiple music artists are chosen each year, and some concerts are even free with the price of your fair admission ticket. The Mardi Gras parade travels throughout several times daily, and surrounding towns have parades on a specific day during the fair. Horse, farm and dairy shows also have their place on the outskirts of the fair, of which many are open to the public. The Storrowton Gift Shop and Musuem which are open year round also offer guided and informational tours throughout their six buildings from earlier centuries that have come to pass. Storrowton Tavern, also open year round keeps its doors open during the fair for a more upscale dining experience. The Big E also features a few sit in type food services such as the Sam Adams Brew Garden and the Italian Pavillion. With deep community roots, the Big E also features the West Springfield Firefighter's House, where volunteers serve and cook meals throughout the day in a sit down style experience, and the Shriner's Hopital circus benefiting Shriner's patients and research.
Also known as the Eastern States Exposition, these fairgrounds are home to many shows which occur year-round including but not limited to: hardware, machinery, dog, kennel, car, motorcycle, boating, and equine. The Melha Shriner's circus calls these fairgrounds its' home at least per year with some proceeds being donated to charity. The Storrowton Museum can provide group tours throughout the year for schools, organizations, and private parties. The Storrowton giftshop is open Monday-Friday and they also offer an Early-Days summer camp for elementary school aged children over the summer and on school breaks. The Carriage House is a multi-functional banquet room available for Weddings, Funerals, Birthdays, Graduations, and other catered events featuring a menu available from the Storrowton Tavern among other catering services in the area.
