Crafty Singer-Songwriter-Keyboardist offering a jazzy bent, a way with words, and the occasional display of dazzling musicianship. Sometimes mixes it up with collaborators.
A reserved soul with hidden shine, known to emerge when making his sounds public to often rapturous response. Engaged by much and many. A California Child at heart, though having extended family ties to Philly and Jersey which also influenced and shaped his listening habits.
'Passion-Precision' a.k.a 'Carleton Rhodes' a.k.a 'R. Fields' uses his unique perspective and technical prowess in both composing and songwriting. His style is-at times- tricky to fully pin down, having influences ranging from Jazz, R&B and a wide variety of 21st century genres. This diversification has enabled him to collaborate with a wide array of musical talents... ranging from Stevie Wonder Sidemen to freshly-formed, local 'Hip-Hop Scholars'. He has worked extensively with Keg Johnson and William Zimmerman—pioneering producers who have collectively worked with artists like Will Smith, Levert, The Spinners and Gladys Knight—as well as Kevin Toney; internationally-celebrated jazz pianist.
He has had showcases and residencies at various venues throughout L.A. and Orange County; namely The Gardenia, The V-20 (piano room), The Vermont, D’Antonio’s, The Catalina Bar and Grill, The Pig N' Whistle, Tribal Cafe, DBA Wine Gallery and many others. He has also been a featured performer at the Los Angeles Annual African Market Place Festival and a Jazz Artist of the Year nominee at the L.A. Independent Music Awards. He is both polished, refined talent and experimental, work in progress with unique musical visions.
