Born in Galveston although raised in Houston , Texas; John Boy was born an instant lover of music, singing from his earliest memories. After joining the choir through the suggestion of his teacher, his fondness of music grew to include a passion for performing live. Other than live performances , he sang for anyone who would listen; thereby creating that intimate connection with others that would fuel his career as a singer/songwriter. Yet it wasn’t until his eigth grade year that his R&B roots took hold. One day, while on his way to a basketball game, he overheard Boys II Men’s “In the Still of the Night”. Inspired by this style of vocal expression, he devoted himself to the development of his art. He enrolled in gospel choirs and took singing lessons, with the hope of one day touching others the way he himself had been touched. Now focused and driven, he performed in talent shows as well as in clubs on the weekends. This led to the possible lead spot in, a boy group in the making, by the age of seventeen and his first record contract negotiation. Things soon went sour when two of the five members quit the band and refused to close the deal. Hurt and confused about the outcome of a situation that seemed to be almost a sure thing, Jon had his eyes set on the closest target. He came to realize that he if he was to network with the world, with the most people possible, he needed to travel. He soon joined the military through the advice of a friend. Promised to sing, by his Army recriuter before signing, Jon had his hopes high and his bags packed. Arriving in Germany after his training, where he was promised to sing for The United States Army Show, he was soon shocked in disappointment when they changed his orders and sent him to Vicenza, Italy. There he served 3 and a half years, including 1 year in Iraq, fighting the War on Terrorism. While serving his country Jon was also doing what he loved. Marketing himself as an American R&B artist, he soon had shows set up all over Italy, Germany, Kroatia, France, England, and Belgium. Findind a way to share with the people what he loved and at the same time connect and network in the best means possible. While singing in Sardegna, an island off the coast of Italy, he met his manager and the man who would find him his next record contract. Soon after meeting and working breifly together, Jon and his manager had found themselves in the office of Match Music (a video station on cable in Europe, like MTV, that also has a license agreement for album production and distribution). Meanwhile Jon was in the studio working with his record producer and friend that he had met 2 years before while performing in a club where he was DJing. The deal had gone through and Jon soon after signed a contract for an LP and 2 videos. In the Summer of 2005 the first single was released, called "Work it Out", with a video. In the spring of 2006 the second single was released, called "Somethin to Bump in Da Club", with his second video. Unfortunately, after waiting 1 year & 1/2 and hoping that an agreement would be made, no conclusion was reached for the precentages between his management and the record label. The deal was soon after dropped. Still hurt and battered from the continuos lies, waiting and manipulation, Jon is still doing what he loves. Back in the studio with his eyes on the future and his goals higher than ever, the most determined and dedicated R&B artist who still hasn't made it, JohnBOY, will never give up.
