- About Me
- Elijah Jamal was born July 31, 1989 to Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Aaron and Dr. Margaret Jamal. Elijah (EJ) moved around a lot as a child born in Chicago and moved to Colorado when he was 5 then back home to Windy City at the age of 12 and resided on the west side of Chicago. As a child, Elijah's love for music was obvious as he was a master at the art of the air guitar and at the age of 6 transitioned to the piano. This was inspired by the successful musicianship of his father.
Elijah's father isn't the only one of his family members who is talented. His mother and father were both accomplished jazz and R&B vocalists, and his great aunt Abbie Lincoln is a very accomplished jazz vocalist and actress starring in a few motion pictures- such as "For Love of Ivy" with Sidney Poitier. At the age of 9, Elijah joined his family which included his older brother and 2 sisters under the leadership of his Mother and Father in their music ministry called Shout. This was the foundation of Elijah's musical talent.
Elijah was home-schooled from the third grade to high school where he attended Alpha Omega School of the arts. Elijah Jamal graduated at the age of 15 from high-school and soon after went to Triton College where he studied Music and Graduated with his Associates Degree at the age of 18.
Elijah attended Columbia College where his major was in Media Management. Elijah hopes to bring a new sound to music, encouraging other musicians and artists to be unique.
He found himself as the target of ridicule from other youth as he tried so desperately to fit in. But he realized that his interests were different and was encouraged by his parents and siblings to be himself. He became a champion for the underdog. He was motivated by people telling him that he couldn’t. He graduated from high school at 16 years old and received his Associates degree from Triton College by the age of 18. He danced and worked out competitively with his brother who later joined the army. As he got more into his music Elijah also got more into being physically fit, watching his food intake, dancing and lifting weights helped him to shed his pounds. Elijah blossomed in appearance as well as talent. He wrote songs about his experiences as well as how he felt about them. You will see how profound a lyricist in the song Preacher's Kid "PK ' where he describes how Preacher’s kids are sometimes judged and forced into postures that they are compelled to navigate.
Today Elijah has been growing a loyal following as he performs through electrifying song and dance in some of the mid west hot spots such as Rumba and the Arie Crown. His latest release Nobody But You is available through I-Tunes, Amazon.com among other venues. His long awaited album of the same title is scheduled to launch by the Spring of 2012.
My plan is to be supportive and helpful to people like me, who are in need of guidance. I believe that you can be successful in the music business without changing who you are or what you stand for, and I intend to do just that!
My music can not be labeled or boxed in by any genre. It may be compared to Pop or R&B but the only way to accurately put a "label" on what I do would be to call it "MUSIC." If you're looking for music with a purpose, you've found it!
