They found the letter

in his hand

On his rumpled bed

just as he’d planned

and it destroyed his family…..

Each word brought

infinitesimal pain,

as each family member

wracked their brains

on why  they didn’t see

His suicidal tendencies……

Till his letter shared his grief….

Now I lay me down to sleep

As I feel narcotics slowly creep

Through my weary veins

There is no pain…….

Is this what Janis Joplin felt

When she loosed that rubber tube

Above that angry welt

From the needle’s mark

When it stole her dreams

And left us her remains……

Now as I lay me down to sleep

I pray the Lord my soul to keep

And as I die before I wake

I pray the Lord my soul to take….

Cause I can no longer take

My soul which  chose to make

My life sheer misery.

Now he is on the other side

Between life and death

In that great divide

In that limbo where folks go

When they deny what

God granted them,

In one sad act of dismantling

There’s a price their death bestows….

They’ll all have to watch

what they left behind

all the years they’ll miss

passing slowly by

cause they took their life

before their appointed times….

In a lesson tinged with sorrow

Where they’ll see that

their tomorrows

Held solutions they declined,

Days of joy beyond

the reasons they

chose to end their lives

endlessly replayed

with each soundtrack

wailing WHY?

Then their souls will move

beyond that plane,

God will ease their pain

But what will remain

Will be haunting memories

of all that they chose not to be.

There’s always tomorrow…

Don’t trade it for sorrow

Wait and see…let it be….

Only life holds the

answers you need.

This is not the End !
